• Beth Regan "Morning Deer"

    ‍Dear Fellow Mohegans,

‍As an active member of the Council of Elders and an ardent advocate of Mohegan culture and sovereignty, I am requesting your vote for the privilege to continue to serve on the Council of Elders to support our Mohegan people and our shared values.

‍I am committed to welcoming our diverse perspectives and participation in our Mohegan community, and to broadening community understanding of Mohegan history, culture and values. My life has been greatly enriched by our Mohegan language, history and ceremonies, as well as through the many positive relationships I have developed.

Some areas of involvement with our Tribe include:

‍ ‍•       I support and lead a cooperative, team-oriented environment within the Council of Elders, through collaboration and working together within our group.

‍‍•       We have embarked on "Project 2031"- a plan entrusting the COE, much of our entire Cultural and Community Departments team, the support of the Tribal Council and many other departments here at Mohegan to create a separate building on Mohegan Hill close to the museum to display our many wonderful collections, including many recent repatriated items from other museums that we are bringing back home to Mohegan. We are showcasing our story and honoring the centennial of the museum which will bring us steadily into the 2nd 100 years and beyond.

    •       The COE, in cooperation with our departments, has developed greater programing in Mohegan Language, including repurposing needed space on Mohegan Hill for language development, curriculum development, programming and teaching Mohegan Language classes. To better serve our Mohegan community, staff and programming have also expanded at the Tantaquidgeon Museum, in Curriculum and Instruction, Cultural and Community Programs, Archaeology, Research, and beyond.

    •       Mohegan Representative on UConn Tribal Educational Initiative between UConn and 5 CT Tribes, to create MOU with UConn and the 5 Tribes working to transform UConn Avery Point campus to a Native Serving Institution (NSI).

    •       COE current projects include a plan to honor and celebrate our veterans at this year's clambake, commemorating Mohegan service 250 and beyond, continuing honoring past leaders and supporting the Mohegan MMIP committee.

    •       The COE has recently appointed firekeepers and a medicine woman in training to help serve our community.

    •       I am honored to represent our Tribe and/or speak at various Mohegan, intertribal, local and state and national events.

‍‍It has been the greatest honor to serve our Mohegan Tribe on the Council of Elders and work with our Tribal members.

I am available and accessible to all. I possess high standards and ethics, and I approach matters openly and honestly. I consistently treat problem solving in a respectful, collaborative, and agreeable manner. I respect and embrace the diversity within our Tribe. If re-elected to the Council of Elders, I promise to continue to serve our Tribe with the highest integrity and honor. Kutapatotamuymuw (Thank you all).

I welcome your call or e-mail and would be grateful if you would entrust me with your vote.
